The island of Ischia is home to the marine protected area “Kingdom of Neptune“. Established in 2007 by the Minister of the Environment, it offers some of the most spectacular seabeds in the Mediterranean.
The Kingdom of Neptune includes the sea surrounding the Phlegraean Archipelago, formed by the islands of Ischia, Procida and Vivara and offers visitors a great concentration of cetaceans, such as dolphins, whales and sperm whales.
The depths of this stretch of sea also boasts another special feature: the Posidonia Oceanica prairie that you can admire especially in the Secca delle Formiche, located in the Ischia channel to the west of the islet of Vivara.
In zone B “no take” area, not far from our hotel, you can see the Sant’Angelo cliff, one of the most spectacular cliffs around the island, with incredible formations of red algae, madrepores and corals. Characteristic of the island of Ischia is the “false black coral“. Despite its name, only the skeleton is black, while the outer and living part is of a very lively yellow.
